Over the past decade, Kailyn “Kail” Lowry has established herself as one of the hardest-working women in the entertainment industry. Arriving in the public eye via MTV’s hit TV show ‘Teen Mom 2,’ Kail quickly became one of America’s favorite young moms. In the years that followed, she’s continued to blaze her own trails. In addition to being a successful television personality, New York Times best-selling author, and social media influencer with over 8 million combined followers, Kail entertains millions around the globe every week with her wildly popular podcasts — “Barely Famous Podcast,” “Coffee Convos,” and “Baby Mamas No Drama.”
Most importantly, Kail is now a dedicated mother of four adorably precocious kids. Collectively, Kail and her crew are known as “Kail and The Chaos” and they are a force to be reckoned with! As you might imagine, with a hectic schedule like hers, it’s important to make every second of downtime count. In 2021, she took on one of her biggest projects to date when she began laying the groundwork to build her dream home in Delaware. There were plenty of obstacles to overcome, not to mention a global pandemic impacting the construction trades nationwide. However, as her legions of dedicated fans already know, Kail is never one to shy away from a challenge. Simply put, the results speak for themselves, as her family’s new space is a stunner inside and out.
Coastal Stone Company recently caught up with Kail Lowry to discuss her homebuilding journey, her design influences, and what it took to make her breathtaking dream home a reality.
Building a new home is always a bit of an undertaking. So when did you know it was the time to take the plunge and begin the journey?
I have moved a lot in my life! That has given me the opportunity to experience different layouts of homes, fixtures, etc. I hoped to be able to build a home for my family one day that was functional for all of us, and I worked hard until I found available land that I loved.
What spoke to you about the property/home you chose to renovate for your family?
The land I chose is gorgeous, and the plans that were developed for the house worked for the land I purchased, so it was perfect!
Tell us about your vision for your new home and how did that vision evolve over time?
I knew what I definitely didn’t want in my home, which was helpful. I liked different things from different design concepts. With the help of my designer, Sami Riccioli, we were able to pull my vision together to make it really cohesive.
What elements of the design/build process did you love the most?
It was actually much harder than I imagined it would be! Picking my selections was stressful but exciting at the same time.
What were some of the biggest challenges you faced in bringing your project to life?
The biggest challenges were the delays getting products or products being out of stock with no in-stock dates.
Your new home serves as a sanctuary for you and your family. What design elements did you include to bring the family even closer together?
Definitely functionality throughout the home. We didn’t want unused space in the home. Believe me, we use every inch!
You bring a little piece of yourself to every new project. Which of the features in the house best speaks to your personality?
My family and I are best known as “Kail and the Chaos,” and while my home is cohesive, there are little elements throughout that pull in the chaos!
You have an incredible flair for interior design. What inspires you?
Just having been able to see so many different homes and things over the years. I am often inspired by the things I see online and then pick and choose elements that I love from there.
Coastal Stone Company is happy to have played a small role in your project. All the blood, sweat, and tears you put into this project paid off beautifully. What attributes did you look for in the brands/materials you incorporated in the remodel?
It was important to me to work with quality brands that I knew would withstand the test of time. This is our dream home, and we plan to stay for a very long time!
One of the things we’ve all loved about you through the years is that you are constantly learning and evolving. A large-scale construction project such as this one teaches you a lot. So what did you learn about yourself through the process of this remodel?
I definitely learned that I can have patience and manage stressful situations extremely well. It was not an easy project!
The hard work is mostly behind you at this point. Is there anything you would approach differently if you had to do it again?
I learned so much throughout this experience. Of course, there are things I would do differently if I built again, but we are so happy here!
What advice would you give to other people considering a renovation journey of their own?
Make sure you have patience! Things may not go exactly according to schedule.
